Landscape Architecture + Planting Design

This project delivers the landscape design for the Te Pūtahi Ora, shaping the external spaces around the building to support an accessible and welcoming community environment.
The landscape concept is grounded in the whakaaro (thought philosophy) that “water is the life giver of all things”, forming the key narrative for the landscape approach.
Hard and soft landscape elements draw from local landforms and water systems, referencing moana (sea), dunes, lakes, hills, and forests. The planting selection includes rongoā species that acknowledge traditional healing practices, developed in collaboration with mana whenua, including Muaūpoko and other local iwi.
The design integrates cultural design principles while ensuring the landscape is practical, resilient, and appropriate for long-term community use.
This was a design and build with Homestead for the Horowhenua Development Company, and was completed in late 2025.
